Changing Pattern of Induced Abortion by Married Women Life Cycle in Korea


Abstract
Abstract-Induced abortion has been prevailing on the purpose of handing unwanted. Pregnancy and ceasing the risk when the pregnancy cause hazardous factor to maternal health. In the early 60's, induced abortion was mainly used by women who
already
passed their reproductive period and women who'd already born proper number of children. Recently, induced abortion is also popular among young mothers by means of controlling timing of child-birth and the age interval between their children.
Moreover,
abortion has become the main method for unmarried young women managing their pregnancy not to have unplanned child.
It is true that emergence of induced abortion has been contributing to women be able to control their pregnancy ; however, having an abortion may cause maternal health risk and weakness. To be succeed in intensive health management, it is very
important
to inform women of aspect of performing an abortion and a fitting time to perform. After surveyed 7110 Korean women who have experience in getting an abortion, following conclusion was obtained about current induced abortion performing situation
in
Korea.
@ES The results were as follows ;
@EN 1. As for the induced abortion rate by year, the rate has increased from 30% in 1974 to about 49% in 1991.
2. As for the abortion rate by age and education level, the rate was high in young age group and the low education level.
3. Premarital women having an abortion rate has been increasing rapidly and 90% of Korean women perform an abortion when they conceive a child unwantedly after they bear desiable number of children.
4. The main usage of induced abortion was handling unwanted pregnancy due to not practice contracetion or contraceptive failure. The data shows still quite number of Korean women do not practice contraception and if they get pregnant due to
contraceptive failure, the major choice was having an abortion.
